Twelve monthly payments of $20 come out to $240, so the $200 yearly plan saves you $40 if you pay up front. Anthropic has no standing discount on Pro, only occasional limited-time promotions, and its nonprofit discounts apply only to Team and Enterprise plans.

Claude Free vs Pro

The Free plan already covers chat on web, desktop and mobile with web search, file uploads, code execution, memory, connectors, Artifacts and up to 5 Projects, running on the Sonnet and Haiku models. Paying for a Claude Pro subscription keeps all of those features and adds the upgrades in the table below.

What you get with Pro

• You get Claude Code in your terminal, in IDEs like VS Code, Cursor and JetBrains, and in the Code tab of the Claude Desktop app.
• Pro unlocks Opus models, including Claude Opus 5.5 (released September 22, 2026), alongside Sonnet and Haiku.
• You get access to Research and Claude Science.
• Your account works with Claude in Chrome and Claude for Microsoft 365.
• You can hand off and schedule tasks, and use Dashboards (beta).

Anthropic's help center also lists priority access during high-traffic periods, early access to new features, and longer multi-step tasks as standard Pro benefits.

Pro usage limits in brief

Pro gives you at least 5x the usage of the Free plan per 5-hour rolling session, with no fixed message count, plus a weekly limit that resets at a fixed time for your account. Chat on web, desktop and mobile and Claude Code all draw from the same pool of usage limits.

Anthropic raised five-hour session limits for Pro when it launched Claude Opus 5.5 on September 22, 2026. If you still hit a limit, you can turn on usage credits, billed at standard API rates, to keep working.

Is Claude Pro worth it?

• Pro is worth it if you regularly hit the Free plan's 5-hour session limit: it gives at least 5x more usage per session.
• Pro is worth it if you want Claude Code in your terminal or IDE, or Opus models like Claude Opus 5.5; the Free plan has neither.
• If you hit Pro's limits most weeks, Claude Max 5x costs $100 a month for 5x Pro's session usage.
• If you need API access for an app, Pro alone is not enough: it includes no API credits, and Claude Console API usage is billed separately.

How to switch Pro to yearly billing

1. Open Settings > Billing in your Claude account.
2. Click Adjust plan next to your Pro subscription.
3. On the upgrade page, select Get Pro annual plan.
4. Review the annual price.
5. Click Confirm subscription.

• Your billing switches to yearly right away, and any unused time from your current month is credited as a separate line on your first yearly invoice.
• Your next billing date is set to one year from the day you make the switch.

Use Claude Pro in your own code
