Go price and availability
- ChatGPT Go price is $8 a month in the US, with localized pricing offered in some markets.
- You can buy Go in every country where ChatGPT is supported, billed in USD by default or in local currency in a limited set of countries.
- Billing is monthly only with no annual or multi-month prepay option, and you can cancel anytime.
- API usage is not included with the subscription and is billed separately.
OpenAI first launched Go in India in August 2025, expanded it to 170 more countries, and rolled it out worldwide on January 16, 2026.
What Go includes
ChatGPT Go gives you everything in the Free tier alongside higher limits for image generation, file uploads, and advanced data analysis. You also get longer memory, projects, tasks, custom GPTs, scheduled tasks, Library access, and support for signing into third-party apps through Sign in with ChatGPT.
Both Free and Go include unlimited everyday text chats (subject to abuse guardrails), so you aren't paying the $8 just to keep chatting. Go also matches Plus on context size, giving you the same 54K Instant context window (about 40 pages of input) and 256K reasoning context window (about 320 pages), plus vision and voice with video.
What you only get on Plus
- Access to GPT-6.1 Sol, GPT-6 Astra, and GPT-6 Sol, plus GPT-5.6 Sol, instead of being restricted primarily to GPT-6 Luna (with GPT-5.6 Terra on Go limited to Work and Codex on desktop).
- Full Codex access on the web, in the CLI, in the IDE extension, and on iOS, along with cloud code review, Slack integration, credits, and an estimated 15 to 160 GPT-6.1 Sol local messages per five hours.
- Full deep research rather than the limited version on Go, plus expanded memory and full ChatGPT Work access across desktop, web, and mobile.
- Sites, developer mode (beta), and interactive tables and charts, plus opportunities to test new features early.
- Image generation with Thinking.
- Full extensions for Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Google Sheets with no ads, whereas Go only gets limited extensions, may show ads, and does not include legacy models such as GPT-4o.
Which one to buy
- Go: Pick this if you do everyday chat, want higher limits than Free for generating images, uploading files, and running data analysis, don't mind seeing ads, and don't need a full coding agent outside lightweight desktop tasks.
- Plus: Pick this if you need reasoning models like GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Astra, want to run Codex in your CLI or IDE, rely on full deep research, or plan to build Sites (see our ChatGPT Plus price breakdown).
- Free: Stick with this for casual use, since it already includes unlimited everyday text chats, subject to abuse guardrails.
If you are already on Plus and downgrade to Go in Settings under Account, you won't get a refund, and your Plus features will stay active until the end of your current billing cycle before the Go rate starts.
Calling your plan from code
Plan2API connects to ChatGPT plans through Codex: you sign up at plan2api.com/connect with a Google account, connect ChatGPT by signing in with a one-time device code, and get a single p2a_ API key that works with the standard OpenAI Chat Completions format (POST /v1/chat/completions at https://api.plan2api.com/v1). Once connected, your code can call the Codex models available on your account, such as openai/gpt-6.1-sol, openai/gpt-6-astra, and openai/gpt-6-luna (the codex/ prefix works too), and you can read more about how that setup works in our ChatGPT subscription API guide.
Because OpenAI limits Codex on ChatGPT Go to GPT-6 Luna at Standard speed in the desktop app (subject to rollout), while Plus gets Codex across the CLI, IDE extension, and web with GPT-6.1 Sol, Plus is the plan you want to connect for API use. Every API call runs against your ChatGPT plan's own usage limits rather than billing per token, and you can pair it with Plan2API Free for $0 (up to 50 chat requests a day and 1 connected subscription) or Plan2API Pro for $12 a month (no daily request cap and up to 3 connected subscriptions); see Codex pricing for Codex access on every plan.
Use the AI subscriptions you already pay for as one OpenAI-compatible API key.
- Free: 1 subscription, 50 requests a day, no card
- Pro: $12 a month
FAQ
Is ChatGPT Go worth it?
Yes, if you want everyday chat alongside higher limits for image creation, file uploads, and data analysis at $8 a month, and you're fine with running on GPT-6 Luna, having limited deep research, and possibly seeing ads. If you need reasoning models like GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Astra or want full coding tools, Plus is the better buy at $20 a month.
Does ChatGPT Go include Codex?
It only includes limited access, which gives you GPT-6 Luna at Standard speed inside the Codex desktop app for lightweight coding tasks, subject to rollout. Upgrading to Plus adds Codex on the web, in the CLI, in the IDE extension, and on iOS, along with GPT-6.1 Sol, cloud code review, Slack support, and credits.
Does ChatGPT Go have ads?
It may, as OpenAI is currently testing ads with eligible Go users in select regions. ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise remain completely ad-free.
Is ChatGPT Go available in my country?
Go is available in every country where ChatGPT is supported. The US price is $8 a month, and OpenAI offers localized pricing and local-currency billing in some markets, while all other regions are billed in USD.
Can I switch from Plus to Go?
Yes, you can switch plans anytime by going to Settings and selecting Account. You don't get a refund when downgrading: your Plus plan stays active until the end of your current billing cycle, and the Go rate applies after that.
