The ChatGPT Plus price is $20 a month, and OpenAI only bills it on a monthly schedule. Here's how that $20 tier compares to the other individual ChatGPT plans on monthly price, top models, and Codex access.

What ChatGPT Plus includes

• You get advanced reasoning with GPT-6, plus access to GPT-6.1 Sol, GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6 Sol, and GPT-5.6 Sol.
• It comes with expanded limits on messages and file uploads.
• Image creation is more complex and accurate, and it includes image generation with Thinking.
• Deep research is expanded compared to the lower tiers.
• Memory and context are expanded: a 54K Instant window and a 256K reasoning window (about 320 pages of input).
• You can use projects, scheduled tasks, and custom GPTs.
• It includes expanded Codex usage alongside ChatGPT Work across desktop, web, and mobile.
• Subscribers get early access to new features.

Eligible Plus subscribers can also use their included allowance in participating tools through Sign in with ChatGPT, though connecting a tool doesn't create a separate allowance.

Plus usage limits

• For Codex usage limits on Plus, OpenAI estimates 15 to 160 GPT-6.1 Sol local messages or 350 to 3,000 GPT-6 Luna local messages every five hours, and weekly limits may apply.
• If you hit your Codex or ChatGPT Work limit, you can buy credits to keep working.
• OpenAI's help center notes that Plus gives you priority access during high traffic, higher model limits, and faster responses.
• Local Codex messages and cloud chats draw on the same Plus usage allowance.

Is ChatGPT Plus worth it?

• Worth it: You actually need GPT-6.1 Sol or GPT-6 Astra, want full Codex in the CLI or your IDE, or use full deep research, Sites, or developer mode.

Billing: monthly only, API extra

ChatGPT Plus is billed monthly in USD, and you can pay with any major credit card. OpenAI doesn't offer an annual plan or let you prepay for several months in advance.

OpenAI's help center states that API usage is separate and billed independently, and ChatGPT and API billing are completely separate systems. Unlike Pro tiers (which can claim $100, $200, or $500 a month in API credits) and Business seats ($20 or $100 each), Plus gets no monthly API credits, so calling OpenAI models from your own code requires a separate OpenAI API key with its own prepaid balance.

Use ChatGPT Plus from your own code

Because a ChatGPT Plus plan includes Codex, you can connect it to Plan2API using a one-time device code and get a single p2a_ key that turns your subscription into a ChatGPT subscription API.
